Project Overview

  • Brastorne Enterprises, based in Gaborone, Botswana, runs digital services such as M-Agri for a base of more than 5 million mobile subscribers across Africa.
  • Neurabit was asked to replace one-off integrations with a single Service Delivery Platform (SDP): one layer that every new service plugs into, with routing, billing and analytics built in.
  • Phase 1 was proposed within 48 hours of the RFP and delivered as a fixed-milestone build by a 4-person Neurabit team over 16 weeks.
  • The first live service could be tested by week 8 to 9 while billing, ledger and the remaining layers were built in parallel.

Challenges

Every Service Was Its Own Integration

Each new USSD service needed custom work against the mobile network gateway, slowing launches and multiplying maintenance.

Scale From Day One

The platform had to serve an existing base of more than 5 million subscribers, so infrastructure cost and peak load had to be designed in, not patched later.

Billing and Consent

Charging subscribers requires IPDR billing consents and a reliable ledger across every service on the platform.

More Channels Coming

USSD was first, but IVR, voice, SMS and app channels had to be addable without rebuilding the core.

One Platform, Many Services

  • USSD Gateway: Live integration with the payment gateway and the M-Agri service, plus the Gigtap jobs service end to end.
  • Open REST API Gateway: Any new service connects through one documented API, so it is built "SDP-ready" from day one.
  • Admin Panel: Service onboarding, configuration and analytics in one place for the Brastorne team.
  • Billing Layer: IPDR billing consents and a ledger shared by every service on the platform.

Built to Add Channels, Not Rebuild

  • Channel Hooks: IVR, voice, SMS and app channels plug in as API hooks on the same platform, in 2 to 3 week phases.
  • Voice Ready: Voice services get a dedicated WebSocket connection for real-time conversation while routing logic stays unchanged.
  • Cost-Aware Cloud: Started on the lightest AWS instances and scaled against measured peak load, with AWS and on-premise options modelled side by side.

How We Ran It

  • Week 0: RFP received and a full proposal with architecture, cloud cost estimate and fixed milestones delivered within 48 hours.
  • Weeks 1 to 9: Core platform and first integrated service ready for testing.
  • Weeks 9 to 16: Billing, ledger, admin analytics and UAT, run on Brastorne's Jira, GitHub and AWS with weekly cadence calls.
  • After launch: Brastorne moved to a dedicated Neurabit team on retainer to support and grow the platform alongside Vytal OS and GetRooted.
